Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- World experience shows that, under favorable conditions, the development of the textile industry can become a breakthrough point for the economic growth of the country and its regions. In this regard, Uzbekistan has certain potential and competitive advantages.
The textile industry occupies a leading position in the export of goods and services of our country; more precisely, it accounts for about 17.5 percent of total exports of goods and services.
According to the experts of the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research (IPMI), in recent years, certain results have been achieved in the implementation of a qualitative diversification of exports.
First, due to the internal processing of local resources (processing of 80-90 percent of cotton fiber), a reduction in the export of raw materials (cotton fiber) and an increase in the export of manufactured goods (yarn, fabrics, clothing) were ensured.
Secondly, the export of about 500 types of textile products abroad has been achieved.
Thirdly, thanks to access to new segments of the world market, Uzbekistan has established the supply of local textile products to more than 65 countries of the world. Russia, China, Turkey and Kyrgyzstan are our main trading partners. About 80 percent of the country’s textile products are exported to these countries.
The calculations carried out by IPMI showed that Andijan, Namangan, Tashkent, Ferghana regions and the city of Tashkent are the main exporters of textile products. In 2021, the share of these regions in the republican export volume was 11.0-17.5%, a total of 66.6%.
In Andijan, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Samarkand, Surkhandarya, Ferghana, Khorezm regions, an important direction is the export of yarn and fabric.
Bukhara, Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Samarkand, Ferghana, Tashkent regions have reserves to increase the export potential of the textile industry by deepening the processing of yarn and fabrics to produce finished products with high added value.
However, according to IPMI experts, in order to expand the export of textile products, attention should be paid to the following issues:
1. Ensuring continuous production processing of yarn and fabrics to obtain finished products with high added value.
2. Mastering the production and export of innovative textile products as a promising export direction.
3. Holding international regional forums of finished textile products, taking into account national color, local traditions, modern design and fashion.
