Tashkent Hosts 26th Meeting of the Russia-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The 26th meeting of the Russia-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Tashkent, during which both sides discussed the development of partnerships in socio-economic, energy, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
Positive dynamics in bilateral trade were highlighted. In 2024, trade turnover between the two countries exceeded US$10 billion, increasing by more than 5% compared to the previous year. In the first nine months of 2025, trade volume grew by another 8%.
Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov emphasized the importance of electronic trading platforms in promoting trade and economic cooperation.
In particular, Uzbek products sold through the Wildberries marketplace in 2024 amounted to US$605 million. The company plans to build the largest logistics center in Uzbekistan, covering 100,000 square meters, with investments exceeding 11 billion rubles and creating about 7,500 jobs. The phased commissioning of the complex is scheduled for the end of 2026.
Denis Manturov also reported that the portfolio of investment projects involving Russian companies in Uzbekistan totals around 55 billion rubles.
Currently, over 3,000 enterprises with Russian participation operate in the country, accounting for approximately 20% of all companies with foreign capital.
Industrial cooperation has been strengthened, including mutual supplies of industrial products and the localization of Russian enterprises in Uzbekistan. Energy cooperation is actively developing as well, covering projects in geological exploration, mining, and hydropower.
In October 2025, construction work began on a nuclear power plant project in the Jizzakh region.
Cultural and humanitarian interaction continues to expand, including tourism and educational links. More than 56,000 Uzbek citizens study in Russian universities and their branches in Uzbekistan.
The meeting emphasized the importance of further deepening bilateral cooperation and implementing joint projects in strategically significant sectors of the economy and social life.
