Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The European Union in Uzbekistan marks World Car Free Day today with the unveiling of the Sustainable Mobility Mural, a major new public art piece in Tashkent. The presentation of the mural is one of the activities of the European Mobility Week 2022 (EMW) dedicated to sustainable urban mobility and healthy lifestyles for a better environment. The European Mobility Week is held in Uzbekistan for the fourth year in a row.
The "Sustainable Mobility Mural" is painted on one of the walls of a nine-story residential building located opposite the 4-Bekat metro station on the border between two rapidly developing districts of Tashkent - Yangikhayot and Sergeli. The impressive mural is an artistic vision of a more resilient, active and healthy Tashkent, and also conveys the message of the European Mobility Week. The mural was created by the creative union of young artists "Brushers", curated by the art gallery "Autograph.
“This year, the European Mobility Week enjoys even greater support from partners and participants in Uzbekistan, thanks to which we have increased the number of ongoing mobility events. We are pleased that, together with partners, we have designed and created a major work of public art dedicated to promoting sustainable urban mobility. I hope this beautiful mural will motivate the people of Tashkent to use sustainable transport solutions whenever possible in their daily lives,” Charlotte Adrian, Ambassador of the European Union to Uzbekistan, said.
“Showcasing the idea of sustainable urban mobility, this vibrant graphic is a great addition to our newly created Yangihayot district. Our district administration will continue to work to improve local sustainable mobility for local residents to make Yangihayot a greener and better place to live.” Khayot Inogamov, khokim of Yangikhayot district of Tashkent noted.
“With this project, we would like to highlight the importance of an active lifestyle and the need for a more sustainable way of transportation for those who live in cities. Bright, juicy colors, graphic styling and a set of precise, recognizable symbols - this is what distinguishes our mural for the European Mobility Week.” Members of the creative team "Brushers" are Anvar Khakimbekov, Nodir Azlarkhujaev, Andrey Zhuravlev and Danil Kudryavtsev.
Today, after the opening of the mural, another important mobility action will take place. The cycling community of Uzbekistan, a long-term partner of the European Mobility Week, organizes the event “Car-Free Cycling Day” with the support of the Khokimiyat of Sergeli district. The cycling route will start in the Yangi Sergeli park, pass along Shokirarik street, turn onto Mirzo Tursunzoda street and lead to a new mural. To complete the bike ride, the participants will return along the same route to the Yangi Sergeli park. This route will be partially closed during the bike ride.
“We are very pleased to welcome cyclists, all guests and visitors of this marathon in the Sergeli region, especially in the renovated park. I hope that this event will draw the attention of our residents to the use of bicycles and other environmentally friendly ways of transportation. Our district is happy to become a partner of the European Mobility Week in Uzbekistan.” Elbek Shukurov, khokim of Sergeli district of Tashkent, said.
Mobility campaigns within the framework of the EMW-2022 will last until 25 September. These days, the Agency for Youth Affairs is holding “Mahalla in support of the European Mobility Week” campaigns in different regions of Uzbekistan, and members of the Tashkent Runners club will take part in the waste collection event “Plogging to improve the urban environment” while jogging in the Tashkent region.
