Tanzila Narbaeva spoke at the 65th session of the CSW

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- These days, the 65th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is being held at the UN headquarters in New York, dedicated to the effective participation of women in decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.

The session is attended by representatives of member states, UN structures and non-governmental organizations accredited to ECOSOC from around the world.

During the session, issues of empowerment of women were considered.

This year Uzbekistan is chairing the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asian Countries. At the session, on behalf of the Dialogue, the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva made a video message.

It is noted that the states of Central Asia have made great strides in protecting the rights, freedoms and interests of women, preventing violence and discrimination against them, ensuring their participation in decision-making processes, based on the principles of inclusiveness.

Moreover, over the past 20 years, the proportion of women in national parliaments has doubled in the Central Asian region.

The head of the upper house of parliament, T. Narbaeva, noted that the focus of the Dialogue of Women Leaders of the Region’s countries will be on the issues of providing material and financial assistance, taking effective measures to eliminate all forms of violence against women and providing assistance to victims.

In addition, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva shared the vision and achievement of Uzbekistan in relation to the issues discussed at the session of the Commission on the Status of Women, including on the measures taken to support women, improve their social status and expand participation in the management of state and society affairs.

Side events are also held during the session by permanent missions, intergovernmental organizations and UN entities.

The 65th session of the CSW will continue until 26 March 2021.
