Student sets himself on fire after failing exams

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A native of Ferghana, a 3rd year student at the Namangan Civil Engineering Institute, doused himself with gasoline and set himself on fire because of failed exams.

The incident took place the Namangan region. This was announced by the press secretary of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan Khaet Shamsutdinov.

On 10 February, the student did not pass intermediate exams in 5 subjects. The group leader called the student’s father and warned that his son had failed his exams. In turn, the father reprimanded his son over the phone.

After talking with his father, the student came to the territory of one of the farmer’s fields in the Nurafshon mahalla, Yangikurgan district. He doused himself in gasoline and set himself on fire.

Local residents provided first aid to the student and took him to the nearest hospital. The guy received burns of 50% of the body surface. On 13 February, he died.

On this fact, law enforcement agencies of Uzbekistan opened a criminal case under part 1 of article 103 (Incitement to suicide). An investigation is underway.
