State Statistics Committee: foreign trade turnover reached US$42.07 billion

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In January-December 2021, Uzbekistan established trade relations with 182 countries of the world. In particular, foreign trade turnover reached US$42.07 billion, including imports amounted to US$25.46 billion.

In January-December 2021, the volume of imports increased by 20.4% compared to the corresponding period of last year. The largest share in the structure of imports fell on machinery and transport equipment (37.1%), chemical products and products from it (16.7%) and food products (11.5%).

One of the factors that influenced the increase in food imports is the expansion of the market for imports of these products. That is, if in 2020 1,051 types of food products were imported from 107 countries, then in 2021, 1,172 types of food products were imported from 114 countries.

Food imports to the Republic of Uzbekistan were carried out mainly from such countries as Kazakhstan (34.1%), the Russian Federation (27.3%), Brazil (11.2%), the Republic of Belarus (3.6%) and Ukraine (2 .2%).

The volume of imports of food products from Kazakhstan in 2020 amounted to US$867.3 million, and in 2021 this figure increased to US$996.5 million or US$129.2 million. The share of Kazakhstan in the total import of food products amounted to 34.1%, the volume of imports compared to the corresponding period last year was 14.9%.

The volume of imports of food products from the Russian Federation in 2020 made up US$687.7 million, in 2021 this figure amounted to US$799.2 million, an increase of US$11.5 million. The share of Russia in the total import of food products amounted to 27.3%, and the volume of imports reached 16.2% compared to the corresponding period last year.

The volume of imports of food products from Brazil in 2020 amounted to US$50.4 million, in 2021 this figure reached US$327.7 million, increasing by US$277.2 million.

The volume of imports of food products from the Republic of Belarus in 2020 amounted to US$81.6 million, in 2021 this figure amounted to US$105.4 million, an increase of US$23.8 million.

The volume of imports of food products from Ukraine in 2020 reached US$36.4 million, in 2021 this figure amounted to US$63.4 million, having increased by US$27.1 million.

The volume of imports of food products from Argentina in 2020 reached US$13.2 million, in 2021 this figure increased to US$58.3 million, increasing by US$45.1 million.

The volume of imports of food products from Turkey in 2021 amounted to US$55.9 million, compared to 2020, this figure increased by US$30.0 million.

The volume of food imports from China in 2021 amounted to US$52.4 million, compared to 2020, this figure increased by US$2.9 million.

Groats occupy a significant share in the total import of food products, the volume of imports amounted to US$662.1 million (22.6% of the total). Imports of vegetable oil amounted to US$313.6 million (10.7% of the total). Imports of meat amounted to US$181.4 million (6.2% of the total). 

Imports of fruits and vegetables made up US$151.1 million (5.2% of the total). Imports of cocoa and products from it (chocolate, etc.) amounted to US$115.1 million (3.9% of the total). Imports of margarine amounted to US$107.3 million (3.7% of the total).

Flour imports amounted to US$95.5 million (3.3% of the total). Imports of milk and dairy products made up US$54.6 million (1.9% of the total). Imports of processed fruits and vegetables reached US$49.6 million (1.7% of the total volume). Imports of soft drinks amounted to US$47.9 million (1.6% of the total). Tea imports amounted to US$42.8 million (1.5% of the total). Bread, flour confectionery reached US$42.8 million (1.5% of the total).

In January-December 2021, from the import of basic food products, cereals were mainly imported from Kazakhstan in the amount of US$648.3 million (97.9% of total imports) and flour US$92.9 million (97 .2% of total imports). Also, 87.5% of sugar and sugar confectionery products were imported from Brazil, and 66.2% of vegetable oil, 86.6% of margarine and 32.7% of milk and dairy products were imported from the Russian Federation. In turn, the main part of beef and mutton is imported from the Republic of Belarus in the amount of US$80.9 million.
