South Korean Government allocates US$3.8 million grant to Uzbekistan for statistical modernization

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Government of the Republic of Korea has allocated a US$3.8 million grant to Uzbekistan for the implementation of the “Statistical Capacity Enhancement” project for the period 2025–2028.

This cooperation, carried out between Uzbekistan’s State Committee on Statistics and Statistics Korea (the national statistical office of South Korea), aims to modernize the national statistical system by integrating digital technologies and drawing on international best practices. The project is funded through Korea’s official development assistance (ODA).

A South Korean delegation is currently visiting the State Committee on Statistics to discuss key aspects of the project’s implementation. A major focus is being placed on capacity-building: training programs for committee staff will be conducted both in Uzbekistan and in the Republic of Korea. Additionally, state-of-the-art classrooms equipped with the necessary computer and audio-visual equipment will be established at the Institute for Advanced Training and Statistical Research.

The project also includes the introduction of a Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) system, which will enhance the accuracy and efficiency of sample surveys. Furthermore, an administrative data management system will be developed to ensure the integration of statistical information across various government agencies, enabling data analysis through automated and reliable platforms.

The implementation of this project is expected to introduce innovative solutions and cutting-edge technologies into Uzbekistan’s statistical system, bringing it closer in line with international standards and significantly strengthening the sector overall.
