Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - At the twenty-first plenary session of the Senate, the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Amendments and Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with the adoption of additional measures to ensure the rights of women in difficult social situations".

The law introduces appropriate amendments and additions to the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On citizens’ self-government bodies", "On the protection of women from oppression and violence" and "On the population census".

According to the amendments, assemblies of citizens of makhallas will be empowered to determine measures to protect women who have been subjected to harassment and violence and who have applied to the gathering of citizens, as well as to immediately notify the relevant centers for the rehabilitation and adaptation of women and internal affairs bodies on the territory of the makhalla, identify persons on the territory of the makhalla, who have committed or are inclined to commit harassment and violence, and participate in preventive work with them.

At the same time, the powers of labor bodies to protect women from harassment and violence are expanding. Now labor authorities are taking measures to ensure employment, attract women to entrepreneurship and vocational guidance for women who are looking for work and who find themselves in a difficult social situation, faced with family problems and violence.

It was noted that the Law establishes that the Ministry of Health is taking measures to provide primary medical care, medical examination of victims of harassment and violence and their children, including women taken to rehabilitation and adaptation centers, as well as free treatment of victims of harassment and violence.

The adoption of the Law contributes to further strengthening the legal framework for providing assistance and support to women in difficult social situations, raising the work of providing targeted assistance to a qualitatively new level.

The law was approved by the senators.
