Samarkand to host the 59th annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank in 2026
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan will host the 59th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which is set to take place from May 3 to 6, 2026, in Samarkand — one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, known for its unique historical and cultural heritage.
This will mark the second time Uzbekistan hosts such a prominent event, following the successful 43rd ADB Annual Meeting held in Tashkent in 2010. The upcoming gathering will once again highlight Uzbekistan’s important role as an active participant in both regional and global economic cooperation.
The ADB Annual Meeting serves as a key platform where governors from the bank’s 69 member countries discuss pressing issues related to sustainable development and the challenges facing the Asia-Pacific region. The event traditionally attracts thousands of participants, including finance ministers, central bank governors, private sector leaders, representatives of international organizations, civil society, and the media.
“I am confident that the 2026 meeting will serve as an inspiring space for constructive dialogue and strengthened partnerships, as well as an opportunity to showcase the richness and uniqueness of the region,” stated ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa.
The Asian Development Bank is one of Uzbekistan’s largest development partners, having allocated over US$5.41 billion over the past five years to support priority projects. The cooperation spans a wide range of areas, including the transition to a green economy, promotion of private sector growth, and the development of human capital.
Founded in 1966, the ADB comprises 69 member countries, 50 of which are located in the Asia-Pacific region. The bank is committed to fostering sustainable, inclusive, and balanced growth through innovative financial instruments and strategic partnerships that aim to improve quality of life, build modern infrastructure, and protect the environment.
