Rosselkhoznadzor introduces temporary restrictions on the supply of tomatoes and peppers to Russia from the Bukhara region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 15 July 2021, the Rosselkhoznadzor introduces temporary restrictions on the import of tomato and pepper fruits originating from Bukhara region of the Republic of Uzbekistan into Russia, the official website of the department reports.

The suspension of supplies is related to the next detection of Tomato brown fruit virus (ToBRFV) in tomatoes imported from the region.

The restrictions are introduced on the basis of the VII International Plant Protection Convention and the Federal Law of 21 July 2014 No. 206-FZ "On Plant Quarantine",

Consignments shipped before 15 July are allowed to be imported into the territory of Russia only after passing the quarantine phytosanitary examination.

From July 7, 2021, the brown wrinkle virus of tomato fruits has been included in the list of objects quarantined for Russia and all EAEU countries.

The disease leads to a decrease in yield by 70-80%, in some cases leads to a complete loss of yield in the greenhouse. The virus spreads through fruits, seeds and seedlings. The introduction of this virus into the greenhouse farms of Russia can completely neutralize the multimillion-dollar subsidies of the state for the greenhouse vegetable growing in Russia.
