Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 4 January 2021, at an expanded meeting of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investment and Tourism, the reports of the heads of diplomatic missions of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the CIS countries were heard.
The event was organized with the aim of increasing the executive discipline of diplomatic missions by establishing parliamentary control over the timely and high-quality implementation of the provisions of the road maps for mutual cooperation with host countries.
The meeting was attended by the first deputy chairman of the Senate S. Safoev, senators, heads of a number of relevant ministries and departments, state companies, representatives of local authorities, and the media.
The heads of the diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan in the CIS countries presented reports on the work done on the implementation of road maps for the development of bilateral relations with foreign countries, including the implementation of specific projects aimed at expanding exports, attracting investment and increasing tourist flow to the regions of the republic.
Within the framework of an open substantive discussion, the whole range of issues and priority tasks of diplomatic missions were considered, a critical assessment of their activities was given, and systemic shortcomings in promoting the economic interests of the republic abroad were indicated.
Attention is focused on the problems of implementing some investment projects in the regions of the country.
Along with the noted effective activities of a number of embassies of Uzbekistan, serious shortcomings and the lack of practical results in the work of individual heads of diplomatic missions are indicated.
The heads of diplomatic missions were given recommendations and specific tasks were set to improve the effectiveness of their activities.
As a result of the meeting, a corresponding decision was made by the committee.
