Opening of Tashkent Contemporary Art Center Postponed Due to Events in the Middle East
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The planned opening of the Contemporary Art Center in Tashkent, initially scheduled for March 2026, has been postponed in light of recent developments in the Persian Gulf region, the center’s team announced.
In an official statement, the organizers emphasized that “in view of recent events in the region, our thoughts and hearts are with all those affected by this conflict.”
They noted that the safety and well-being of participants and guests remain the top priority, which was the key factor in the decision to delay the opening. A new date has not yet been set and will be announced in due course.
“Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to welcoming you to Tashkent at another time,” the center’s statement added.
The Contemporary Art Center first opened in 2019 in a historic building on Amir Temur Street in the Mirabad district, formerly housing the Cinema Museum. In 2021, a decision was made to undertake a major renovation of the center. The reopening had originally been planned for September 2025.
