Modern challenges to environmental safety and methods of their prevention discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 May 2021, in the format of videoconference in the Russian city of St. Petersburg, a plenary session of the IX Nevsky International Ecological Congress was held on the topic "Ecology of the planet - sustainable development", dedicated to national strategies and projects in the field of ecology and environmental protection, issues of environmentally responsible behavior, development of a "green economy", culture of production and consumption, healthy lifestyles.

It was attended by the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, co-chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Nevsky International Ecological Congress V. Matvienko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, co-chair of the Organizing Committee of the Nevsky International Ecological Congress V. Abramchenko, members of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States, heads and representatives of bodies authorities of the CIS countries, scientific and expert and business communities, and public organizations.

A video greeting with words of support from the international community to the participants and guests of the congress was sent by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

The event was attended by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva.

The head of the upper chamber of the parliament of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva noted that Uzbekistan supports the proposal to further strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation in this direction.

Detailed information is given on the work carried out in the country, organizational, socio-economic and regulatory measures taken.

Also, attention is focused on the problem of the Aral Sea, which is also under the close scrutiny of the parliament of Uzbekistan. So, in the upper chamber there is a Committee on the development of the Aral Sea region, as well as an interdepartmental working group to ensure the implementation of measures for the comprehensive socio-economic development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

It was noted at the event that the adoption at the plenary session of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly of a special Resolution on declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovations and technologies was a logical continuation of the creation of a Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region.

Parliamentarians and experts who spoke at the congress noted the further development of national projects in the field of ecology and environmental protection, environmental safety, environmental education and the development of green energy and other issues.
