Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, Minister of Health Abdukhakim Khadjibayev received US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan Daniel Rosenblum. The goal of the meeting wass to discuss issues of improving the quality of further cooperation in the field of healthcare.
During the conversation, the ambassador noted the enormous work carried out in the country to promptly and timely respond to COVID-19 and eliminate its consequences.
Mr. Rosenblum said he was impressed by the tireless work of the heroic medical workers of Uzbekistan during the pandemic.
In turn, the minister expressed gratitude for the assistance provided in the implementation of this work. A. Khadjibaev noted that the United States provided not only material and humanitarian, but also advisory assistance.
Videoconferences were organized with the participation of specialists from the two countries in order to exchange information in the field of treatment of patients with coronavirus.
It was said that effective cooperation is underway with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). In March 2020, four new projects were launched to combat tuberculosis worth more than US$15 million. During the project period, new drugs and diagnostic technologies will be introduced, helping patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis.
In addition, the United States has committed more than US$9 million in emergency assistance to combat COVID-19. It includes technical assistance, laboratory equipment and test systems, as well as 200 ventilators deployed in hospitals across the country.
Uzbekistan also cooperates with the United States in the pharmaceutical industry. In particular, at the moment in our country there are 46 registered medicines from more than 10 manufacturers, 108 medical equipment from 39 manufacturers, 79 medical products from more than 30 manufacturers in the United States.
In order to implement a project to organize deep processing of iodine-bromine products in Bukhara and Kashkadarya regions, GRP International established a joint venture Asian Pharmaceutical Industrial Group KRG.
During the communication, the parties agreed to implement new investment projects in the field of medicine aimed at the production of modern medical equipment, improving the quality of the provision of specialized medical services to the population using high medical technologies, and creating new jobs in the healthcare sector.
An agreement was also reached on the exchange of experience of specialists, the organization of internships in leading clinics in the United States, not only for employees of public medical institutions, but also for representatives of the private sector.
