Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov discussed with the Chief Adviser on Foreign Policy of the President of the European Council Simon Mordue ways of deepening political and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EU.

It was noted that the parties attach special importance to the further development of a multifaceted partnership and highly appreciate the dynamics of expanding bilateral cooperation in all areas of common interest.

In particular, the dialogue touched upon the organization and holding of a number of joint events, namely the EU-Central Asia Summit, the EU-Central Asia Ministerial Conference on Interconnectivity, and the EU-Central Asia Tourism Forum. In this context, it was noted that Uzbekistan has all the prerequisites to become a platform for the promotion and implementation of large-scale initiatives aimed at increasing regional connectivity, ensuring sustainable economic growth of the countries of the region and strengthening security.

Joint measures to deepen economic partnership were discussed. The parties noted the need for joint work to identify new “growth points” for expanding investment and trade cooperation and outlined further steps in this direction.

They also touched upon issues of interaction within the framework of the initiative to join Uzbekistan to the World Trade Organization, which, according to the European side, will be an important step towards the integration of Uzbekistan into the world economy and the multilateral trading system.

Also, during the meeting, other issues were discussed in the field of financing investment and infrastructure projects, financial and technical cooperation and support for the activities of the UN multi-partner trust fund for human security for the Aral Sea region.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to intensify interaction in order to accelerate the resolution of existing issues in the context of the considered areas of cooperation.
