Kazakhstan is ready to participate in the construction of the trans-Afghan railway

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- During the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Kyrgyzstan, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that Kazakhstan is ready to participate in the construction of the Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway.

According to him, "we can ensure the uninterrupted supply of materials for the upper structure of the railway tracks and provide rolling stock."

It should be reminded that expeditionary work began earlier to determine the route and the feasibility study for the construction project of the Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway. The length of the railway will be 600 km, the estimated cost is US$5 billion.

It is expected that with the full implementation of the project, the transportation of goods from Pakistan to Uzbekistan will take not 35, but 3-5 days, and the cost of transporting one standard cargo container can be reduced by almost three times. At the same time, the volume of cargo transportation along this route can reach 10 million tons.
