Issues of Rural Poverty Reduction Discussed in Rome

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An international Side Event on “Deepening International Cooperation to Reduce Poverty in Uzbekistan’s Agriculture” was held at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome.

The event was organized with the support of the governments of China and Brazil, in collaboration with FAO.

The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, participated and presented information on the reforms being implemented in the country to reduce poverty in rural areas, promote inclusive development, and create sustainable employment opportunities.

According to the minister, in recent years Uzbekistan has implemented comprehensive measures to increase household incomes and improve well-being in rural communities. As a result, poverty levels have decreased, unemployment has been reduced, and access to resources for small farmers and young entrepreneurs has expanded.

A key aspect of these reforms is the study of China’s experience in sustainable rural development, strengthening cooperation with Central Asian states, and effective utilization of technical assistance from IFAD and FAO.

Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov emphasized: “There is no single formula for reducing poverty. Each country must act according to its conditions and capabilities, and sustainable well-being in rural areas is possible only through international solidarity and shared learning.”

The minister also presented initiatives to develop digital systems in agriculture, improve value chain processes, and support youth entrepreneurship.

By 2030, one of Uzbekistan’s priority goals is to halve rural poverty while ensuring equal access to innovations and resources for small farmers, women, and young people.

In conclusion, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov stated: “Uzbekistan will continue to take concrete steps together with the international community to ensure a sustainable rural way of life, strengthen overall well-being, and enhance food security.”
