Issues of cooperation with the World Bank on combating corruption were discussed at Senate

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 31 January this year, Chairman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Judicial and Legal Affairs and Anti-Corruption Narimon Umarov met with World Bank representative Daniela Felkman.

During the meeting, issues of strengthening cooperation with the World Bank, as well as reforms aimed at preventing and combating corruption in our country, and work to prevent corruption facts in the process of developing legislative acts were discussed.

In particular, it was noted that Uzbekistan has adopted about 90 legal acts on the eradication of corruption in all areas of state and public construction, including more than 10 legal acts regulating directly the sphere of combating corruption, and positive results have been achieved within the framework of projects "Sphere without corruption", "road maps" and programs.

The Law “On the State Civil Service” was adopted, which fixes the norms for the legal regulation of the process of selecting candidates for employment through an open independent competition, defines the criteria for assessing the performance and competence of civil servants, as well as requirements for improving their qualifications.

In the “Strategy for the Development of New Uzbekistan”, it is determined that the country should become free from corruption. This is a logical continuation of the reforms aimed at combating and preventing corruption, and places a huge responsibility on the state bodies, in particular the parliament, for the implementation of the planned work.

It was also emphasized that the Law “On Conflict of Interests” is currently being discussed in Parliament and a draft law “On Declaration of Income of Civil Servants” is being developed.

Representatives of the World Bank provided detailed information on the goal and expected results of the Bank’s project "Strengthening institutional capacity to combat corruption in Uzbekistan" and discussed the role of parliament in their implementation.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue cooperation with the World Bank.
