Ilkhom Prize established in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ilkhom award was established by the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers. The Resolution approved the Regulations on the procedure for awarding the Ilkhom Prize.

The prize is awarded to young people studying and working in higher educational institutions who have achieved high results in such spiritual, educational, scientific and creative processes as studying the life and work of poets and writers, translating their works, conducting research on this basis, making films and plays.

The Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education is held responsible for the high-level competition for the award.

All universities in the republic can participate in the competition.

The competition is held in two stages - preliminary qualifying and main competitive.

In the pre-selection stage, university-level candidates are selected through test questions.

The tests will include 50 questions covering the masterpieces of Russian literature, the rich spiritual heritage of writers and thinkers, the life and work of poets and writers.

3 candidates with the highest scores according to the test results, based on the recommendation of the university rector, can participate in the next stage.

The documents of the selected candidates are drawn up and submitted to the organizing committee of the competition by April 15 of each year.

Within 1 month, the organizing committee will evaluate the submitted works in terms of social significance, topic disclosure, specific interpretation, artistry of the work. Each requirement is on a 5-point scale.

The winners will be awarded as follows:

1st place - “Spark” car, special diploma and statuette;

2nd place - a cash prize of 30 million soums, a special diploma and a statuette;

3rd place - a cash prize of 15 million soums, a special diploma and a statuette.

The awards ceremony will be held annually on 20 May - on the opening day of the Writers’ Alley - as part of the Great Literature Festival.
