EU and Central Asian countries discuss international efforts to peacefully resolve the Afghan crisis

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 15 April 2021, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev took part in an online video conference of the special representatives of the European Union and Central Asian countries for Afghanistan.

During the meeting, they discussed international efforts to peacefully resolve the Afghan crisis, actively involve Afghanistan in regional integration, economic recovery of this country and the implementation of various infrastructure projects on the territory of Afghanistan.

The EU representatives especially noted the statement of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Tashkent conference on the indivisibility and interconnectedness of the concept of security in Central Asia from security in neighboring Afghanistan, as well as the thesis that Afghanistan is an integral part of the Central Asian region.

The parties noted the key importance of observing the principle of the leading role of the Afghan people in promoting the peaceful political process in the country, as well as the successful continuation of direct inter-Afghan negotiations.

The participants also spoke in favor of Afghanistan joining the EU-CA dialogue aimed at solving regional problems.

A thorough exchange of views took place on the priority areas of international assistance to Afghanistan, especially in the difficult conditions of the pandemic.
