Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 22 April 2021, the chairman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on the development of the Aral Sea region Boriy Alikhanov met with the executive director of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia Z. Makhmudov.

During the meeting, the reforms carried out in our state in the field of environmental protection, ways to improve the socio-economic situation in the Aral Sea region, issues of further development of cooperation with the Regional Environmental Center of Central Asia, including a member of its governing council B. Alikhanov, were considered.

It was noted that within the framework of the execution of the decree of the President of Uzbekistan "On measures for the comprehensive socio-economic development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan in 2020-2023", 705 out of the planned 1,359 investment projects were launched in Karakalpakstan, resulting in the creation of about 4,500 jobs. In accordance with this document, it is planned to implement a total of 2,788 projects and objects worth 1 trillion 209 billion soums and attract foreign grants and investments in the amount of more than 1 billion dollars. A number of events are being held in this direction today. Parliamentary control over their implementation is carried out by the Senate Committee on the Development of the Aral Sea Region.

At the meeting, given the complexity and significance of the environmental problem in the Aral Sea region, the Uzbek side expressed its proposals for cooperation. In turn, it was noted that the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia also determined its directions.

The parties expressed their readiness to intensify the regional dialogue in this direction, fruitful cooperation in the implementation of the "green" economy.
