Counterfeit Drug Operation Foiled in Bukhara Region, Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Authorities in Bukhara region have halted the sale of substandard and counterfeit medicines, following a joint operation by the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes. The action was part of measures to protect public health.
Investigators established that a 1994-born resident of the Gijduvan district, together with family members, had been producing medicines at home using artisanal methods.
Further investigative actions revealed that the offenders stored the medicines at a single address and used two pharmacies for distribution. Both locations were inspected according to official procedures.
During the operation, 47,821 units of medicines across 193 product names, with an estimated total value of over 500 million soums, were seized. Authorities noted that some products had been smuggled into the country, while others were manufactured using improvised methods.
Additionally, investigators recovered 6,989 empty drug packages, labels, three devices for packaging medicines, and two sacks of instruction leaflets.
All seized items were formally documented and sent to the Pharmaceutical Product Safety Center for official analysis. Pre-investigation checks are ongoing.
