Cooperation Programme Signed Between the Senate of Uzbekistan and UN Population Fund
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva, held a meeting with the Head of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) Country Office in Uzbekistan, Nigina Abaszade.
During the talks, the parties discussed the opportunities arising from the country’s positive demographic trends, as well as ways to enhance the population’s quality of life and bring socio-economic development to a qualitatively new level. Special attention was given to studying international experience and introducing best practices aimed at improving working conditions for women and ensuring a better work–life balance.
It was emphasized that real progress in achieving gender equality requires not only better statistical outcomes but also deep institutional and practical reforms. In this regard, the parties agreed to expand cooperation in promoting women’s and girls’ empowerment and to launch joint educational initiatives for enhancing women’s professional qualifications across various sectors.
Nigina Abaszade, for her part, commended Uzbekistan’s efforts to expand girls’ access to quality education, stressing that this represents one of the most impactful investments in the country’s future.
A separate topic of discussion was the need to improve legislation on combating digital violence. The two sides reviewed potential measures to develop accurate and effective legal mechanisms aimed at protecting citizens from online threats.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a Cooperation Programme for 2025–2026 was signed between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
