Chairman of the Senate meets with the delegation of the International Labor Organization

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 30 March 2022, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairperson of the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Forced Labor Tanzila Narbayeva met with a delegation of the International Labor Organization headed by Deputy Director General Heinz Koller, who arrived to our country to participate in the international conference “Promoting decent work in Uzbekistan: a people-centered approach”.

Tanzila Narbaeva stressed that this international event, jointly held by the National Commission to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings and Forced Labor and the International Labor Organization, is important for developing new ideas to create decent working conditions and ensure employment in New Uzbekistan.

During the conversation, the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation were discussed.

It was noted that in Uzbekistan in recent years, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, reforms have been carried out in all areas, as well as significant changes have occurred in the system of labor relations, large-scale systematic work has been carried out to introduce institutional, organizational, legal, legislative, normative and international standards.

Multilateral cooperation with the International Labor Organization has been established. Over the past 10 years, effective work has been carried out between Uzbekistan and the International Labor Organization to counter forced labor, monitor compliance with labor rights, and introduce international standards in the field of labor relations, said Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.

It was noted that the implementation of priority tasks for the consistent improvement of decent working conditions, the introduction of international standards identified with the International Labor Organization in the Decent Work Program in Uzbekistan for 2014-2016 and subsequently extended until 2020 was fully ensured.

It was especially emphasized that the adoption in September 2021 of the New Country Program on Decent Work in Uzbekistan for 2021-2025 will bring mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and the International Labor Organization to a new level.

Heinz Koller noted that multifaceted cooperation with Uzbekistan will continue.

He stressed that he fully supports the implementation of the first in the region New Country Program on Decent Work adopted by Uzbekistan, which is fully consistent with the UN Sustainable Development Program.

As a result of the event, the parties agreed to further strengthen and develop cooperation.
