Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An underground automobile tunnel was opened in Urgench on 15 December, which runs under the main square of the regional center.

The opening ceremony was attended by the khokim of the region Farhod Ermanov. He congratulated the audience on the opening of the facility.

The length of the tunnel is 500 m, width - 17 m. The design capacity of the tunnel is 3.2 thousand vehicles per hour.

The tunnel is laid along the main street of Urgench - Al-Khorezmi, which connects the airport and the station, and passes under Islam Karimov street and the Kirghiz-Yap canal.

According to the khokimiyat of Khorezm region, Al-Khorezmi and Islam Karimov streets are the busiest in the city. On average, 18 thousand cars move along Al-Khorezmi street per day, and 14 thousand cars move along Islam Karimov street.

The launch of the underground tunnel will eliminate the congestion of this intersection.
