Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Poland held a videoconference with the participation of the leadership of the Khokimiyat of Kashkadarya region and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry “Poland – Uzbekistan”, during which the plan for the implementation of the investment project “Production of seed potatoes in Uzbekistan using the in vitro method” was discussed.
The cost of the project is US$11.5 million in direct investments. The partners from the Polish side are the Chamber of Commerce and Industry “Poland – Uzbekistan”, the Potato Center of Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute and Potato Breeding Zamarte Ltd.
The project involves the construction of an in vitro laboratory and its equipment with the latest technology, premises with an area of 1,000 square meters for refrigeration units, as well as a greenhouse with an area of 5 hectares. It is also planned to send special equipment and planting material in the form of plants for the production of seed material for planting in open ground on 200 hectares.
The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Poland Bakhrom Babayev proposed to allocate an additional 20-30 hectares of land to organize an experimental training ground, where Uzbek farmers and dehkans could learn and adopt the best practices of Poland in seed potato cultivation.
Khokim of Kitab district, Alisher Zakirov, expressed his readiness to provide all possible assistance in allocating the necessary areas for the implementation of the investment project by concluding a lease agreement with local farmers.
The investor assured that the investment project under consideration will contribute to further development of seed production in Uzbekistan, will allow the country to achieve independence in this matter, and increase the level of knowledge in seed potato production.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on organizing a visit of the Polish delegation to Kashkadarya region in the first decade of January to discuss the details of the investment project implementation.
