Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 13 January 2023, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov met with the First Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed, who visited Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on topical issues of interaction between Uzbekistan and the UN and its specialized institutions.

Amina  Mohammed stressed that in recent years the dialogue between Uzbekistan and the UN has expanded significantly and reached a qualitatively new level.

Organizational issues and a schedule of joint events planned for 2023, including the Samarkand Solidarity Forum for Common Security and Prosperity, the 25th session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization, etc., were considered.

Special attention was paid to the current situation in Afghanistan. UN representatives were informed about the relevance of the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan on the formation of a high-level international negotiating group to prepare and agree with the Afghan authorities on an algorithm for the phased fulfillment of the obligations of the parties.

An agreement was reached to continue joint work to resolve the Afghan problem, to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, in particular, through wider use of the capabilities of the international logistics hub in Termez.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed at the talks.
