A parliamentary commission on compliance with the country’s obligations in the field of human rights creates

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A Parliamentary Commission has been established in the Oliy Majlis to comply with the international obligations of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights.

The decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On approval of the National Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights" adopted on 22 June 2020, contains a recommendation to the Oliy Majlis to create a parliamentary commission to comply with international obligations in the field of human rights.

In accordance with this recommendation, the Kengash of the Legislative Chamber and the Kengash of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted an important joint resolution on the establishment of the Parliamentary Commission on the observance of international obligations of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights, which also approved its composition and Regulations.

The main goal of the Parliamentary Commission is to promote compliance with the international obligations of our country in the field of human rights and the implementation of the National Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights.

This process implies the following obligations:

• participation in the implementation of policies aimed at ensuring human rights and interests;

• implementation of international human rights standards into national legislation;

• assistance to the process of formation of respect for human rights and freedoms;

• coordinating the quality implementation of national human rights action plans, with particular emphasis on practical cooperation between parliament, government and civil society institutions.

It is stipulated that the created Commission annually reports on its activities at meetings of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The decisions taken by this Parliamentary Commission will be communicated to the public through the media.

First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akmal Saidov was appointed chairman of this Parliamentary Commission, Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zayniddin Nizomkhodjaev was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission.
