A BRT Network Over 50 km Long to Be Built in the Capital to Improve Urban Transport

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 2025 to 2030, nearly 51 kilometers of dedicated lanes for a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system are planned to be constructed in Tashkent. This was stated in an interview with the Oʻzbekiston 24 TV channel by the First Deputy Hokim of the capital, Bakhtiyor Khaydarov.

According to him, as part of the project, checkpoints at city entrances and exits will also be relocated. This proposal has been approved by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Bakhtiyor Khaydarov noted that the total length of the BRT network will be 50.6 kilometers. The system will be implemented on 10 streets in Tashkent, taking into account the experience gained from organizing traffic on Shota Rustaveli Street.

Over the next five years, the BRT will be introduced on the following routes: Shota Rustaveli (5.1 km), Shakhrisabz (3.2 km), Amir Temur (5.7 km), Yangi Sergeli (5.3 km), Makhtumkuli (1.3 km), Mirzo Ulugbek — Feruza — Yuzrabot (10.4 km), Lutfi and Mukimi (5.9 km), Nurafshan (3.7 km), Karatash — Kukcha Darvoza (4 km), Alisher Navoi — Beruni (6 km).

The project is estimated at 126 million USD. Its implementation will allow the transport of approximately 1.14 million passengers by 2030.

It is expected that the average speed of buses will increase from 18 to 23 km/h, intervals between trips will be reduced from 20 to 8–10 minutes, and travel time to the city center will decrease from 45 to 34 minutes.
