Uzbekistan’s Legislative Chamber Reviews Draft Law on Powers of Cultural Heritage Agency
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis reviewed in first reading a draft law aimed at legally defining the powers of the Agency for Cultural Heritage.
The draft law provides for the systematization and clarification of the powers of executive authorities in the protection and rational use of cultural heritage, with amendments and additions to relevant legislation.
In particular, the bill clearly delineates the responsibilities of the Ministry of Culture and the Cultural Heritage Agency.
The Agency will be granted authority over archaeological research, historical and cultural expertise, maintaining the state cadastre, museum activities, and the organization of import and export of cultural assets.
Adoption of the law is expected to strengthen the institutional management system for cultural heritage protection, eliminate contradictions and gaps in legislation, and improve the efficiency of authorized bodies.
The draft law was approved by deputies and forwarded to the Senate for further consideration.
