Uzbekistan Updates Procedure for Obtaining Category A and B Driver’s Licenses Starting from 1 February

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 1 February 2026, new rules for obtaining Category “A” and “B” driver’s licenses have come into effect in Uzbekistan, introducing changes to the driver training system.

Under the updated procedure, the theoretical component—covering the basics of driving and traffic rules—can now be completed without mandatory attendance at a driving school.

Candidates are free to choose their preferred learning format: online courses, in-person classes, or self-study using educational materials.

However, practical driving training remains compulsory and must be conducted exclusively at licensed public or private driving schools. Upon completing the practical course, candidates are required to pass both theoretical and practical exams in accordance with established regulations.

It is noted that the certificate confirming completion of practical training is now issued electronically, eliminating the need for a paper document. In addition, the previous procedure for registering driver training and retraining groups for Categories “A” and “B” at the State Traffic Safety Service has been abolished.

The new rules are aimed at simplifying the process of obtaining a driver’s license and expanding options for candidates while maintaining mandatory requirements for practical driving skills.
