Uzbekistan Approves Draft Law on Improving Probation Oversight in Second Reading

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, a draft law “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aimed at Improving Control Mechanisms for Persons Released on Parole” was considered and approved in its second reading.

The draft law introduces amendments to the Criminal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Penal Enforcement Code, and the Law “On Probation.” It establishes clear legal procedures for probation oversight of individuals conditionally released from serving sentences.

Specifically, the law defines the procedure for revoking parole and directing offenders who fail to fulfill court-imposed obligations back to serve their sentences or be subject to additional restrictions. Simultaneously, it allows courts to consider proposals for partial or full cancellation of imposed obligations for individuals who conscientiously and responsibly comply with the conditions of their conditional release.

Officials noted that the adoption of this draft law will strengthen supervision over parolees, ensure effective measures against those violating court orders, promote law-abiding behavior, and enhance the efficiency of preventing offenses and recidivism.

Following detailed discussions, deputies of the Legislative Chamber approved the draft law in its second reading.
