Uzbekistan and EBRD Discuss Strategic Economic Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting was held at the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan between Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev and Greg Gayett, First Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The EBRD remains one of the country’s key strategic partners. In recent years, the bank has established the largest regional investment portfolio in Uzbekistan, exceeding $7 billion. In 2025 alone, operations totaled more than $1 billion, with 85% of financing directed to the private sector.

During the meeting, priority areas of cooperation for 2026 were discussed, including support for private businesses, promotion of infrastructure projects, and implementation of digital solutions. Particular attention was given to initiatives aimed at improving living standards and enhancing economic resilience, including the modernization of energy networks, development of water-saving and irrigation systems, digital transformation of Uzbekistan Railways, and the supply of electric buses to the cities of Nukus and Samarkand.

The parties agreed to intensify the joint development of new infrastructure financing models in special economic zones and continue dialogue on international platforms.

Jamshid Khodjaev expressed his gratitude to Greg Gayett for the constructive discussion and readiness to expand cooperation with Uzbekistan, emphasizing the strategic importance of the partnership for the country’s economic development.
