Switzerland hands over land laser leveling equipment to Tashkent institute

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Swiss Cooperation Bureau of the Embassy of Switzerland in Uzbekistan handed over seven sets of land laser leveling equipment to Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Land-improvement on 6 February 2015.

Students of the institute and specialists of water management organizations, who undergo trainings at the Center for training of cadres and improving skills, will study to use new equipment.

The land laser leveling equipment is new for Uzbekistan, but it helps to save about 30% of water at the fields.

Within the project on support agriculture enterprises Phase 2, Uzbekistan Water Consumers Association received seven sets of land laser leveling equipment, which was produced by Easy Farming (Pakistan). Now, Tashkent institute gets such equipment.

The project on support agriculture enterprises Phase 2 has been launched in 2009 and implemented by the Swiss Cooperation Bureau of the Embassy of Switzerland in Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Government of Uzbekistan and World Bank. Total project cost is US$131.65 million, including contribution of Switzerland for US$7.7 million.

The project is aimed at improving productivity, financial and ecologic sustainability of agriculture sector, as well as profitability of agri-industrial complex in project territories. The project covers 250,000 hectares of lands, managed by 4,000 farmers.
