Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Denies Fake Reports About “Being Summoned” to the MFA

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Alexey Yerkhov has refuted media and social media reports claiming that he was allegedly “summoned” to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, Yerkhov clarified that last week a meeting was held at the Uzbek MFA with the participation of Russian general consuls from various regions, conducted in a constructive dialogue format.

According to the ambassador, the meeting addressed consular and legal matters, including issues related to labor migration, as well as the exchange of information between heads of Russian consular offices in Uzbekistan and local Russian authorities.

“It was interesting to hear reports from colleagues — the heads of consular offices of Uzbekistan in Russia — as they work intensively, given that over a million citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan reside in our country, and various issues occasionally arise concerning them,” Yerkhov noted.

He emphasized that the Russian side presented Uzbek colleagues with the new migration policy concept approved by the President of Russia, outlining its main provisions and requirements. The meeting, he said, took place in a positive and friendly atmosphere aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The ambassador specifically highlighted the inaccuracy of publications suggesting he was “summoned” or “reprimanded.”

“Any such reports are false, and it is recommended to verify sources before publishing information. The embassy is open to contacts with media and bloggers,” Yerkhov stated.

He also noted that constructive dialogue with the Uzbek side is traditionally maintained at a high level, and Russian ambassadors in Tashkent are treated with proper respect.
