Russia Strengthens Nuclear Energy Partnership with Central Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Russia is developing cooperation with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in the field of nuclear energy based on equality and mutual respect, in contrast to Western countries, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

Her remarks came amid comments by French President Emmanuel Macron regarding the need to reduce dependence on Russian uranium. Among alternative suppliers, Macron cited Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Canada, and Australia.

Zakharova noted that Western countries seek to secure access to Central Asian markets and natural resources, often using non-market methods and attempting to weaken Russia’s cooperation with regional states.

She emphasized that Russia bases its interactions on international law and bilateral agreements, taking into account the interests of all parties involved.

According to Zakharova, this approach underpins Russia’s collaboration with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in the development of modern nuclear energy and the implementation of nuclear power plant construction projects.

She further stressed that, unlike Western nations, which act from a position of dominance, Russia focuses on equality and mutual consideration of interests in carrying out joint energy initiatives.
