Mirziyoyev and Berdimuhamedov Discuss Expanding Bilateral Ties
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 20 March, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a phone conversation with the National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
At the start of the conversation, the leaders exchanged greetings on the occasion of Ramadan Hayit and Navruz, wishing their peoples peace, prosperity, and well-being. Mirziyoyev also conveyed warm congratulations to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The interlocutors noted the positive momentum in bilateral relations, grounded in friendship, good-neighborliness, and strategic partnership. They emphasized that contacts at various levels remain active and that trade turnover is showing steady growth, partly due to increased deliveries of finished products.
The role of the newly established Shavat–Dashoguz border trade zone in expanding mutual trade was highlighted. At the same time, freight volumes, including through the Turkmenbashi port, continue to rise.
The leaders discussed further development of cooperation in energy, industry, water management, and transport. Special attention was given to strengthening inter-parliamentary, interregional, and business ties, as well as expanding cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
The conversation also included an exchange of views on the current situation in the Middle East and South Asia, emphasizing the importance of resolving emerging issues exclusively through political and diplomatic means.
Additionally, the schedule of upcoming bilateral and multilateral events for the current year was discussed.
