Karakalpakstan posts 8.4% growth of economy in 2014

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The volume of gross regional product of Karakalpakstan grew by 8.4% in 2014, the session of local council said.

It was underlined that construction works of Ustyur Gas Chemical Complex is continuing in the republic. It is expected that the plant will produce its first products in July-August 2015.

Over US$109.5 million were invested into Kungrad Soda Plant, which will allow to produce additional 100,000 tonnes of products a year, which will double production capacities.

Within the territorial programme for improving industrial potential, some 321 small enterprises were commissioned. Over US$6.3 million and 66.5 billion soums were invested to these projects.

Industrial enterprises produced goods for 1.3 trillion soums and consumer goods worth 529.2 billion soums. The volume of production grew by 10-12%, production of industrial products per capita – 17.3% and consumer goods – 12.3%.

The commercial banks issued loans for 364 billion soums to small and private businesses. Number of registered small businesses reached 10,609 units, which grew by 436 units compared to 2013.

Karakalpakstan created some 50,000 new jobs within employment programme, of which 24,000 jobs were provided to college graduates.
