Five Dead in Road Accident on Navoi–Uchkuduk Highway

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Five people were killed in a traffic accident on the Navoi–Zarafshan–Uchkuduk highway, according to Kun.uz citing its source.

The collision occurred on 7 March at approximately 16:30 in the section of the highway passing through the Kanimekh district. The vehicles involved were a Kia and a Chery, both reportedly exceeding the speed limit.

Three occupants of the Kia and both the driver and a passenger of the Chery were killed, with three of the victims dying at the scene.

“My brother worked at the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine. That day he was heading to Zarafshan. Unfortunately, this tragedy happened. He was a very kind person and wished no harm to anyone,” a relative of Chery driver Sanzhar Nurmakhmedov told Kun.uz.

Among the deceased was 17-year-old administrator of the Telegram channel “Zarafshon kanal,” Umidjon Tukhtamurodov. On March 11, the channel posted about road conditions on the A-379 highway and ongoing traffic incidents, urging residents to support initiatives to repair the road under the “Initiative Budget” program.

Earlier, in February, another accident in Kanimekh district resulted in four fatalities, reportedly due to a violation of overtaking rules.
