Chairperson of the Uzbek Senate Discusses Gender Equality Promotion with UN Women
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, held a working meeting with Zeliha Unaldi, Country Program Manager of UN Women in Uzbekistan.
At the beginning of the meeting, Chairperson Narbayeva congratulated Zeliha Unaldi on her appointment and wished her success in leading the organization’s activities in the country.
During the discussion, the parties reviewed the current state and prospects of Uzbekistan’s cooperation with UN Women, as well as key steps to promote gender equality and enhance women’s rights and empowerment.
It was emphasized that priorities for Uzbekistan include strengthening the institution of the family, legal protection for women, and ensuring gender equality.
Special attention was given to implementing the “Uzbekistan–2030” Strategy and the National Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality by 2030, improving the legal framework, expanding socio-economic opportunities for women, and preventing all forms of discrimination.
The discussion also covered the development of the Women Leaders’ Dialogue of Central Asian countries, chaired by Uzbekistan in 2026, as well as the design and implementation of future programs based on proposals and initiatives resulting from the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed readiness to further strengthen cooperation and implement joint initiatives aimed at supporting women and advancing gender equality in the country.
