Border Violator Detained in Ferghana Region with Large Batch of Potent Drugs

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A man attempting to illegally cross the Uzbek–Kyrgyz border with a large quantity of potent narcotic substances has been detained in the Ferghana Region.

The operation was carried out jointly by Border Guard troops and internal affairs agencies in the Rishtan district. The detainee was identified as a resident of the Uchkuprik district, born in 1983.

During a search conducted in the presence of witnesses, law enforcement officers seized 9,542 units of the drug Zardex, with an estimated total value of about 1.32 billion soums.

The active ingredient of the drug, pregabalin, is included in the list of potent substances whose circulation is restricted in the Republic of Uzbekistan under Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 818 dated 27 September 2019.

A criminal case has been initiated against the suspect under Articles 223, Part 1, 246, Part 1, and 251¹, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. A preventive measure of detention has been imposed, and investigative actions are ongoing.
