National Chamber draws on Canadian experience in training dentists

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The National Chamber of Innovative Healthcare of the Republic of Uzbekistan begins cooperation with one of the oldest universities in Canada, Dalhousie University - with a partnership in the field of dentistry.
During an online meeting held on 15 January 2021, Chairman of the National Chamber Rovshan Izamov held talks with Benjamin Davis, Dean of the Dalhousie University Faculty of Dentistry.
Founded in 1818, Dalhousie University today has over 180 study programs in 13 faculties, including dental. The university is part of U15 - a group of Canadian universities that are leading in the research segment at the state level. Dalhousie University’s generally recognized achievements are related to medicine, dentistry, as well as IT management, oceanology, genetic engineering and other areas.
Since the first days of its creation, the National Chamber has been actively implementing the Program to bring the best international experience into the national healthcare. And a significant part of this Program is cooperation with foreign universities that have extensive experience in training personnel in the field of healthcare, teaching based on the latest standards, methodologies and developments.
As Mr. Izamov noted during the meeting, the main goal of the discussed partnership is cooperation in the educational sphere and advanced training of dentists in Uzbekistan. He also stressed that at present one of the most dynamically developing medical universities in Uzbekistan is the Tashkent State Dental Institute (TSSI). In particular, at the end of 2020, a branch of this university was opened in Spain.
For his part, B. Davis said that representatives of Dalhousie University are purposefully working to improve international relations, namely, to provide quality education to specialists in different countries of the world according to Canadian standards.
The parties discussed various opportunities for cooperation in this direction, including the organization of lectures for students, residents and practitioners using telemedicine, master classes, educational conferences in offline and online formats. They also discussed the conditions for the introduction of international accreditation of the TGSI, the organization of training courses for doctors.
In the course of cooperation, the National Chamber will oversee the implementation of partnership projects and provide the necessary assistance, which is one of the main tasks of this state structure.
“The introduction of innovative projects in Uzbekistan today is of great importance at the level of the country’s leadership. A particularly important aspect of innovation is a new high-quality level of training of specialists for various spheres of life in the republic, including healthcare, ”R. Izamov noted during the meeting.
The parties reached an agreement, taking into account the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, to work out the organization of online courses (3-6 months) or a series of educational videoconferences for young dentists with the provision of certificates.
