OSCE/ODIHR observer mission arrives in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A first group of the OSCE/ODIHR observer mission arrived in Uzbekistan. The delegation includes 12 persons and led by Ambassador Daan Everts.

The Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan said that another group of the observers will arrive in Uzbekistan. The OSCE observers will include 20 representatives of 16 countries – Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Britain, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Serbia, France, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Sweden.

The mission will work in Uzbekistan from 1 to 30 December and will assess national legislation and practice in election sphere. The mission will familiarize with activities of the election bodies, political parties and massmedia.

The CEC said that four organizations also expressed their wish to participate in the elections as observers. They are Executive Committee of the CIS, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, World Association of Election Bodies.

The CEC also invited 275 observers from 35 countries of Asia, Europe, CIS, Africa and America.
