Xi Jinping Announces Global Measures to Support Women’s Development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced new initiatives to promote the development of women worldwide during the Global Women’s Summit, which opened Monday in Beijing, according to Xinhua.

Over the next five years, China will allocate an additional $10 million to the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), the Chinese leader stated.

In addition, $100 million will be provided from the South-South Global Development and Cooperation Fund to implement joint programs supporting women and girls in partnership with international organizations.

Xi Jinping also noted that China will back 1,000 small-scale projects aimed at improving livelihoods, with women and girls designated as priority beneficiaries.

Furthermore, China plans to invite 50,000 women from various countries to participate in training and exchange programs, and will establish an international center for women’s capacity building, which will coordinate personnel development and expand cooperation with other countries and organizations.
