Washington hosts forum on foreign policy of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 22 January 2018, Central Asia and Caucasus Institute (CACI) in Washington (the United States) hosted a forum “Foreign policy of Uzbekistan: transformations and continuity under new leadership”, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

Representatives of research institutes, NGOs, mass media, diplomatic corps and staffers of the US Congress took part in the event.

CACI chairperson Frederick Starr underlined that after presidential elections, wide scale changes in all spheres in Uzbekistan. He said that measures adopted to liberalize national economy and reformed system of public administration. He underlined that Uzbekistan started to improve relations with the neighboring states and strengthened dialogue with leading western states, including the US.

Director of the Center of military-political research of Goodson Institute Richard Waitz said that foreign political initiatives of Uzbekistan open new opportunities for all Central Asian states. Uzbekistan promotes joint solving existing problems. He said that this helped to strengthen open dialogue. He underlined that Tashkent support equal relations with all states based on national interests and priorities of the country’s development.

Director of Eurasian Center under Atlantic Council John Herbst said that last year relations between Uzbekistan and the US strengthened. He said that Presidents of two states have close positions on some actual issues in the sphere of politics, economy and security.

It was underlined that participants of the forum, adopted in Uzbekistan for last year, help to assess persecutes of development with optimism.

It was underlined that CACI will organize two more similar events, dedicated to reforms in Uzbekistan.
