Volume of market services provided in Uzbekistan reaches 157.08 trillion soums

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to preliminary data, the volume of market services provided in Uzbekistan in January-September 2020 reached 157.08 trillion soums, and the nominal volume increased by 16.12 trillion soums. In comparable terms, compared to the same period last year, the growth rate was 1.8%.

Compared to January 2020, the volume of market services provided in September (discrete month) of the current year increased by 5.8 trillion soums and reached 22.1 trillion soums, the Uzbek State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.

At the end of the third discrete quarter of 2020, the volume of services provided was 56.4 trillion soums, compared with the III discrete quarter of 2019 (51.5 trillion soums), the volume increased by 4.9 trillion soums.

The service industry includes a variety of activities that help improve labor productivity and production efficiency.

In the structure of provided market services by type of economic activity, trade services account for the largest share. Thus, in January-September 2020, their share was 26.3%. At the same time, high rates were noted for transport (24.5%), financial services (21.5%), communication and informatization services (6.0%).

A slight increase in volumes was noted in the healthcare sector, the share of services which reached only 1.4%. Also, a low share was recorded in the provision of services for the repair of computers and household goods - 1.5%, for rental and hiring services - 1.9%, as well as in the field of architecture, engineering surveys, technical testing and analysis - 2.1%. 

High growth was noted in financial services (30.4%), communications and information services (16.4%), as well as in trade services (0.4%). For all other types of activity related to the service sector, compared with the same period last year, there is a decrease in growth rates.

A significant decrease in the volume of market services provided was noted in the sphere of accommodation and catering services (by 16.6%). Along with this, a decrease was recorded in healthcare services (by 13.8%), transport services (by 9.0%), in the field of architecture, engineering surveys, technical tests and analysis (by 7.7%) related to real estate (by 7.6%), rental and hiring (by 5.3%), as well as in the field of education (by 3.7%).

Despite a significant reduction in the volume of market services provided in the transport sector, their share in the total volume of services remains predominant - 24.5%.

The share of road transport is 54.6%. The volume of transportation through pipelines in transport services is 18.5%. In turn, the services rendered by railway transport in the total volume of transport services reached 15.2%. The share of services for the carriage of goods and passengers by air was recorded within 4.7%, and auxiliary transport activities - at the level of 7.0%.

Passenger transportation occupies a significant share in the volume of market services provided by road transport.

In January-September 2020, the share of passenger road transport services reached 67.0%. The share of services for the carriage of goods in the total volume of market services rendered by road transport amounted to 33.0%.

Trade plays an important role in the economic life of each country, which carries out the connection between production and consumption, has a significant impact on the volume and structure of production of goods, as well as on improving their assortment and improving quality.

In January-September 2020, the share of trade services in the total volume of market services provided amounted to 26.3%, which corresponds to 41.27 trillion soums.

Over the past period, the share of retail trade amounted to almost three quarters of the total volume of trade services, or, more precisely, 67.9%. The share of services in wholesale trade (except for trade in cars and motorcycles) reached 25.3%. 

Wholesale and retail trade of cars and motorcycles, including repair services, accounted for 6.8% of the total volume of trade services. Compared to other regions, the largest share of retail trade services is observed in Kashkadarya (86.5%), Andijan (85.5%), Jizzakh (83.8%), Surkhandarya (83.3%) and Navoi (81, 2%) regions.

This indicator in Tashkent city is insignificant. Here it was only 47.5%. However, in this city, the share of wholesale trade services is quite significant (except for trade in cars and motorcycles) - 45.7%. In the Andijan region, it was the smallest - 8.0%.

A relatively high share of the services of wholesale and retail trade in cars and motorcycles, including services for their repair, was noted in Samarkand (9.4%), Tashkent (8.4%), Ferghana (7.9%) and Navoi (7.9%) regions.

The smallest share of these services was recorded in Surkhandarya (3.9%), Kashkadarya (4.6%) and Jizzakh (4.9%) regions.

The volume of financial services reached 33 712.2 billion soums. The share of financial services in the total volume of services amounted to 21.5%. Compared to the same period last year, there is an increase in the volume of financial services by 8 879.2 billion soums. The growth of financial services was 30.4%.

The introduction of innovative banking technologies to create conditions for the provision of modern banking services, including the organization of the activities of “digital” banks and their divisions specializing in the provision of retail services, the improvement of remote banking services, the further development of the payment system, contribute to the dynamic development of financial services.

In comparison with other regions, during the surveyed period the volume of financial services in the city of Tashkent increased by 4 535.5 billion soums and reached 18 091.5 billion soums. Along with this, an increase in volume was noted in Ferghana (by 543.0 billion soums), Tashkent (by 458.6 billion soums), Andijan (by 403.8 billion soums), Samarkand (by 394.4 billion soums), Bukhara (by 376.7 billion soums) and Surkhandarya (by 329.3 billion soums) regions.

The share of financial services, except for insurance and pension services, accounts for 91.3% of their total volume. Over the past period, the share of insurance services was recorded in the range of 5.3%. Services auxiliary to financial and insurance services accounted for only 3.4% of the total volume of financial services.

The share of financial services, except for insurance and pension services, was significant in Surkhandarya (95.2%), Syrdarya (94.7%), Ferghana (94.1%), Jizzakh (93.8%), Navoi (92.8%) regions and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (94.7%). The lowest rate was recorded in Andijan (86.9%) and Tashkent (90.4%) regions.

Among the regions in the structure of financial services, the volume of insurance services prevails in the Tashkent (7.7%), Namangan (6.3%), Navoi (6.1%), Bukhara (5.3%) regions and the city of Tashkent (5.6%).

The lowest indicator for insurance services was noted in Andijan (3.4%), Surkhandarya (3.8%), Samarkand, Syrdarya (4.0%) regions, as well as in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (3.9%).

In January-September 2020, the volume of communication and informatization services was fixed at the level of 9.39 trillion soums. Compared to the same period last year, the growth rate of this type of service reached 116.4%. The share in the total volume of market services rendered amounted to 6.0%.

In the volume of communication and informatization services, the largest share falls on telecommunication services (wire and mobile communication services, Internet networks, satellite communication services, etc.). Their share was 78.3%.

Computer programming services, consulting and other related services reached 7.5%, other communication services - 5.0%, information services - 4.7%, as well as publishing services - 4.5% of the total volume of communication services and informatization.

High growth rates were noted in Tashkent (+33.5%), Jizzakh (+14.7%), Syrdarya (+13.9%), Ferghana (+12.9%) and Khorezm (+11.8%) regions, as well as in the city Tashkent (+20.3%).

A slight increase in communication and information services, compared to last year, was recorded in Bukhara (3.8%) and Surkhandarya (8.2%) regions, and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (7.9%).

The largest volume of communication and informatization services was recorded in the city of Tashkent - 5 266.3 billion soums. This is due to the fact, that most of the enterprises and organizations operating in this activity are registered in this region.

At the same time, relatively large volumes of provided market communication and information services were observed in Ferghana (547.5 billion soums), Samarkand (509.4 billion soums), Andijan (413.3 billion soums), Namangan (368.4 billion soums), Kashkadarya (362.8 billion soums) and Tashkent (325.2 billion soums) regions.

During the current period, the lowest indicators for this type of service were noted in Syrdarya (132.4 billion soums), Jizzakh (171.4 billion soums) and Navoi (181.0 billion soums) regions.

The highest indicators for the provision of telecommunication services were noted in Jizzakh (99.4%), Andijan (97.7%), Syrdarya (97.4%), Namangan (97.3%), Navoi (97.2%) and Samarkand (97.0%) regions.

The city of Tashkent is a region with a fairly developed information and communication infrastructure. Due to the fact that, when compared with other regions, the highest indicators of services in computer programming, consulting and other related services (12.6%), in the field of information (8.0%), in programming and television and radio broadcasting (7.2%), publishing services (6.8%), services for the production of films, video films and television programs, services for sound recording and publishing of musical works (1.2%), telecommunications services in the structure of communication and informatization services occupied a low share in the city of Tashkent, accounting for 64.2%.

Compared to January-September 2019, there is a high growth in telecommunications services - 15.7%.

In January-September 2020, high growth rates of telecommunication services were noted in Tashkent (+38.7%), Syrdarya (+15.0%), Jizzakh (+15.0%), Ferghana (+13.8%) regions, as well as in the city Tashkent (+19.1%).

As you know, providing citizens with quality and affordable education is a task that largely determines the development of society and its future.

In January-September 2020, the volume of services in the field of education reached 5.52 trillion soums, or 3.5% of the total volume of market services provided. Compared to the same period last year, the growth rate was 96.3%.

The largest volume of services in the field of education was noted in Samarkand (400.6 billion soums), Ferghana (378.0 billion soums), Tashkent (360.3 billion soums) and Andijan (332.6 billion soums) regions as well as in the city of Tashkent (2 356.0 billion soums).

The lowest indicators were recorded in Syrdarya (76.4 billion soums), Navoi (116.8 billion soums), Jizzakh (124.0 billion soums), Khorezm (169.7 billion soums) and Surkhandarya (185.1 billion soums) regions.

Compared to the same period last year, the growth rate of accommodation and catering services amounted to 83.4%, and their volume was equal to 4.24 trillion soums. Over the past period, their share in the total volume of market services provided amounted to 2.7%.

Compared to January-September 2019, the volume of accommodation and food services decreased by 173.1 billion soums.

In the total volume of accommodation and catering services, food and beverage services prevail - 83.8%.

In January-September 2020, the share of residential services was 16.2%.

In January-September 2020, the volume of services in the healthcare sector was equal to 2 259.5 billion soums. In the total volume of services, their share was 1.4%. Compared to the same period last year, the growth rate was 86.2%.

The share of the city of Tashkent prevails in the total volume of services in the healthcare sector - 43.4%. Along with this, a relatively high specific weight was recorded in Tashkent (8.4%), Ferghana (7.1%) and Samarkand (6.6%) regions.

This indicator is insignificant in such regions as Syrdarya (1.7%), Navoi (2.2%), Jizzakh (2.5%), Surkhandarya (2.9%) and Khorezm (3.4%) regions, as well as in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (2.1%).

In the total volume of services, the share of the city of Tashkent is the most significant - 36.7%. This is due to the fact that real incomes of the population here are higher than in other regions.

Also, the largest share was recorded in Tashkent (7.6%), Samarkand (6.5%), Ferghana (6.1%) and Andijan (5.2%) regions.

The lowest indicators of the service sector were noted in the Syrdarya (1.5%), Jizzakh (2.2%), Navoi (2.6%), Khorezm (3.0%) regions and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (2.9%).

Over the past period, relatively high growth rates were noted in Syrdarya (+5.9%), Andijan (+4.5%), Navoi (+4.3%), Namangan (+3.3%), Tashkent (+3.2%), Ferghana (+3.1%) Bukhara (+3.0%) regions, the Republic of Karakalpakstan (+3.5%) and the city of Tashkent (+6.9%).

An insignificant growth was recorded in Khorezm, Surkhandarya, Samarkand (2.3%), Kashkadarya (2.7%) and Jizzakh (2.9%) regions.

During the surveyed period, in the context of regions, the city of Tashkent had a huge impact on the increase in the total volume of market services provided. Compared to the same period last year, the volume of services in this region increased by 8.8 trillion soums and reached 57.61 trillion soums.

Along with this, relatively high rates were observed in Tashkent (11.93 trillion soums), Samarkand (10.14 trillion soums), Ferghana (9.65 trillion soums) and Andijan (8.21 trillion soums) regions.

As you know, the prospects for the socio-economic development of modern Uzbekistan largely depend on the rational use in the national and local interests of all resources of each economic area and region of the republic.

The level of development of the service sector ensures the territorial and social mobility of the population, the development of new economic territories, an increase in production efficiency and the consumption of material goods.

Growth in the volume of market services rendered per capita is observed monthly.

In January-September 2020, the volume of market services rendered per capita reached 4 600.7 thousand soums. Compared to the same period last year, the rate fell by 0.1%.

This indicator among the regions ranges from 22 047.1 thousand soums in the city of Tashkent to 2 131.8 thousand soums in the Surkhandarya region. The low per capita rate in this region is due to its high population numbers.

The service sector includes various activities that help improve the quality of work and increase production efficiency. In the service sector, the fundamental factors of economic growth are formed, namely: new scientific knowledge, intellectual capital, information technology, financial services, consulting, etc.

As of October 1, 2020, the share of enterprises and organizations engaged in the service sector reached 65.1%, industry - 17.6%, construction - 8.8%. In agriculture, forestry and fisheries, 8.5% of enterprises and organizations operate.

In the structure of operating enterprises and organizations related to the service sector, the share engaged in trade activities prevails (41.9%). The number of operating enterprises and organizations providing accommodation and food services amounted to 9.6%.

The share of operating enterprises and organizations related to transportation and storage and related to the service sector, in their total number, reached 5.7%.

The share of functioning enterprises and organizations engaged in information activities and rendering communication services is 3.0%.

The number of operating enterprises and organizations providing services in the field of health care and social security amounted to 3.0% of their total number.

Compared to the same period last year, in the reporting period, the number of operating enterprises and organizations operating in the service sector increased by 42.9 thousand units.

Compared to last year, high growth is observed in the field of trade - 30.1%. The number of enterprises and organizations employed in this industry increased by 28.7 thousand units and reached 124.1 thousand units.

Also, growth was noted in activities related to the provision of accommodation and catering services, which amounted to 16.5%. The number of enterprises and organizations operating in this activity increased by 4.0 thousand units and amounted to 28.6 thousand units.

As of October 1, 2020, in the total number of enterprises and organizations providing services, small businesses accounted for 79.1%.

The growth of operating enterprises belonging to small businesses has had a positive effect on the increase in the total number of operating enterprises and organizations engaged in the service sector.

As of October 1, 2020, if we compare with the same period last year, the number of small businesses operating in the service sector increased by 42 610 units.

As a result, their number was 234,304 units, and the growth increased by 22.2%. In the total number of operating small businesses, the share of those employed in the service sector reached 59.9%.

The development of the service sector is one of the most important conditions for the formation of a market economy with a social orientation. The positive results of the market reforms carried out in the country are inextricably linked with the further development of the service sector, an increase in its role in solving the most important social and economic problems of the development of society.
