Specialists of BCI presented methodology Better Cotton Initiative, use of which will allow farmers to increase cotton production and decrease prime cost. At the same time, producers of textile can strengthen their position at the world market.
It was noted that famous global brands, producing textile products, moved to purchase raw cotton, produced in line with the BCI programme.
The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is a not-for-profit organisation stewarding the global standards for Better Cotton, and bringing together cotton’s complex supply chain, from the farmers to the retailers.
BCI was founded in 2005 by such companies and NGOs as Adidas, Gap Inc., H&M, ICCO, IFAP, IFC, IKEA, Organic Exchange, Oxfam, PAN UK и WWF.
Initiative is directed at teaching farmers of new cotton growing technologies, which require less water and pesticides, improve labour standards and increases income of farmers. Various sorts of cotton and methods of growing are used to achieve this goal.
