Uzbekiston Temir Yollari receives four Chinese cargo locomotives

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- State joint stock railway company Uzbekiston Temir Yollari received four cargo electric locomotives of O’ZEL series, which were produced in China.

Tashkent Central Station hosted an event dedicated to arrival of cargo electric locomotives of O’ZEL series on 1 November 2013, the press service of Uzbekiston Temir Yollari.

The locomotives were purchased within the project “Updating locomotive fleet. Purchase of 11 electric cargo locomotives” with attraction of long-term loan of the Government of China.

Uzbekiston Temir Yollari and consortium CNTIC and CNR DLRC (China) signed an agreement on purchase of 11 electric cargo locomotives for US$44.39 million.

The project cost is US$47.3 million. Eximbank allocated a loan for US$42 million and own resources of Uzbekiston Temir Yollari.

The loan issued for 20 years, with five year grace period. Interest rate is 2.25% APR plus margin of refinancing bat at 0.25%.

Consortium of the Chinese companies CNTIC and CNR DLRC are suppliers of electric cargo locomotives.

The locomotives were produced by Chinese companies in cooperation with Japan’s Toshiba based on technical requirements, provided by Uzbekistan Temir Yollari.

Within the joint work, the sides improved technical characteristics of locomotives. The power of the locomotive was increased from 6,000 to 7,200 kilowatt and tractive effort – from 450 to 490 kN. The locomotives were equipped with internal surveillance system.

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari said that the purchase of O’zel locomotives helped to decrease use of materials and resources at repair works by 40%, fuel consumption by 10%, and increase weight of transported freight by 12%.
