Uzbekistan’s Green Power Generation Rises by 43%
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Since the beginning of 2026, Uzbekistan’s solar and wind power plants have generated more than 2 billion kWh of electricity, a 43% increase compared to the same period last year, the country’s Energy Ministry reported.
As of 20 March, total green energy generation reached 2.0154 billion kWh. Of this, 959.2 million kWh was produced by solar power plants and 1.0562 billion kWh by wind farms.
Currently, Uzbekistan operates 15 solar photovoltaic and five wind power plants with a combined capacity of 5,582 MW. These facilities play a key role in increasing the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix.
The growth trend remains steady. Solar plants generated 434 million kWh in 2022, rising to 576.9 million kWh in 2023. In 2024, nine solar and one wind power plant produced 4.86 billion kWh, while total generation from solar and wind facilities reached 10.5 billion kWh by the end of 2025.
According to the Energy Ministry, green electricity output has increased by 610.7 million kWh since the start of the year compared to the same period in 2025. This has enabled savings of 537 million cubic meters of natural gas and prevented the release of more than 1.158 million tonnes of pollutants into the atmosphere.
Including hydropower plants, total electricity generation in the country since the beginning of the year has reached 3.16 billion kWh. This has resulted in savings of 839 million cubic meters of gas and a reduction of more than 1.808 million tonnes of emissions.
The volume of electricity generated is estimated to be equivalent to the average three-month consumption of 5.2 million households, or the annual consumption of around 1.3 million households.
