Uzbekistan’s Delegation Holds a Series of Meetings in Canada as Part of an Official Visit
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 25 to 27 November 2025, a delegation from Uzbekistan headed by the First Deputy Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Sodiq Safoev, paid an official visit to Canada.
During the visit, a series of productive meetings took place aimed at strengthening interparliamentary and interstate cooperation. The Uzbek delegation met with Speaker of the Senate of Canada Raymonde Gagné to discuss the establishment of a permanent dialogue between the parliaments of both countries, the systematic expansion of cooperation and the advancement of joint initiatives.
During talks with Senators S. Ataullahjan and M. Ravalia, the sides reviewed prospects for exchanging experience in parliamentary diplomacy, human rights protection, gender equality, as well as migration policy and security.
A meeting was also held with the Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, G. Scarpaleggia. The sides exchanged views on developing systematic ties between Uzbekistan and Canada at the level of the lower chambers of parliament, sharing legislative experience and organizing expert dialogue.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada, the importance of continuing political consultations and exchanging views on developments in Central Asia was emphasized.
Particular interest was generated by the “Uzbekistan Day” event held in the Canadian Parliament. The delegation provided detailed information on the progress of economic reforms, improvements in the investment climate, policies supporting women and youth, as well as new initiatives in green energy and innovation.
On 27 November, the delegation held meetings with several organizations in Toronto.
During discussions with the President of the Council of Ontario Universities, S. Orsini, the parties addressed the creation of joint educational programs between universities in Uzbekistan and Canada, the development of academic exchanges for faculty and students, as well as support for research projects.
At the meeting with the leadership of the Vector Institute, concrete proposals were developed for cooperation in artificial intelligence, data analysis, cybersecurity, IT education and innovative research, as well as for engaging young people from Uzbekistan in modern technological fields.
As part of the visit, the delegation also met with compatriots, young people and students living in Canada. An open dialogue was organized, during which participants received information about reforms underway in Uzbekistan, the country’s international cooperation policies and engagement with the diaspora, and shared their own proposals and views.
